All works are available for purchase. Visit www.coastalartsleague.com for directions and additional information. History of the Half Moon Bay Plein Air PaintersEric Greenhut launched the group in 2008 when he “saw that there was a need for local artists to paint together on a regular basis.” Since then the group has grown to about 80 painters, he said, of which from 8 to 20 meet weekly at some scenic spot along the coast. We are at a outdoor location every Wednesday. Greenhut added “There is no cost whatsoever to be part of our group. We have no instructors. Our members provide the critiques which are designed to give encouragement and to further each artist’s skill level. We offer our suggestions with the idea of mentoring each other. All skill levels and all painting mediums are welcome.” When the weather is bad the group meets indoors at La Piazza on South Main St. to work on their plein air paintings. At other times, we meet inside at the Half Moon Bay Nursery to paint flowers. For information on the plein air group, contact Eric Greenhut, [email protected] |
What Half Moon Bay Plein Air Painters Means to Me
I took up watercolor painting about 17 years ago, and having a regularly scheduled (but pressure-free) time to paint every week keeps me painting, progressing, and feeling productive. Every week I look forward to three hours of pure joy, when cares disappear. Painting along the spectacular coast around Half Moon Bay is truly a spiritual experience, a way of deeply appreciating the beauty of the area where we are lucky enough to live. What's more, this is a really special group of friendly, talented, caring people. We paint together, laugh together, share ideas and eat lunch together! What a joy! ~Judy Lurie I recently walked through the refurbished CAL gallery and saw the wonderful HMB Plein Air painters show. What inspiring artwork. The gallery looks great! I felt safe with social distance protocols put in place and being enforced. There were a few or us in the gallery. That’s impressive given these scary times. Stay safe! ~Susan Vandiver |
