​Paul Rubas, sculptor

Experience the shape, texture, and form of wood carvings inhabiting the gallery. Combinations of materials can be seen in small and large pieces. Born in 1954 Czechoslovakia, Paul’s family left in 1968 due to political circumstances.  They lived in Germany until in 1971, they emigrated as political refugees to the east coast of the US.   After his university education, Paul settled with his wife, Penny, in the Bay Area, where Belmont has been their home for thirty-four years. ​

Paul Rubas was born in the Czech Republic.  Attended Rutgers University majoring in languages and literature.  He is a self-taught artist who resides in Belmont.  His sculptures and furniture are made from recycled and reshaped materials, including metals, various woods and stone.

​Martha Irwin, Pen & Ink

​Martha Irwin’s pen and ink drawings create an illusion
of three-dimensional space on a flat surface. ​Martha works in several media, most often in pen and ink and Prismacolor. Self-taught, she refuses to be limited to a subject matter or genre. She enjoys experimenting with different media and techniques, which leads to her diversity of work. ​

Martha believes an artist’s creativity
​cannot be traced to a single place or experience.

Martha Irwin is a longtime member of the Coastal Arts League. Originally from Chicago, IL, she studied at the graphic arts studio of Judith Hahn and also at West Valley College in Saratoga, CA. ​

  " I consider art to be a form of language that aims to express inner and outer conflicts.  Hand and brain cooperation in the present moment eliminating verbal filters is the objective.  Strong influence comes from my childhood, immigration, extensive travels and meeting people who are trying to make sense of our ever increasing fragmentation."  Paul Rubas​
