Martha Irwin is a longtime member of the Coastal Arts League. Originally from Chicago, IL, she studied at the graphic arts studio of Judith Hahn and also at West Valley College in Saratoga, CA. Mostly self-taught, she works in several media, mostly pen & ink and Prismacolor.

Martha refuses to be limited to a subject matter or genre and enjoys experimenting with different media and techniques. This leads to a diversity of work. She believes that an artist's creativity cannot be traced to a single place or experience. ​
