Chris Carrig “Nothing brings me greater joy than being near the ocean.”

Chris paints with shell fragments, detailed hand embellished prints, and drawings in her body of work “Looking Beyond”. Chris honors the fish, kelp, seaweed and other creatures that inhabit our local waters  and ‘looks beyond’ what she sees, to discover an unchanging beauty and truth. “By adapting my concept of beauty, I discovered that the contours, surfaces and colors of shell fragments were stunning delights in their imperfection.

Cindy Newth

Cindy Newth “This focus has deepened my reverence for nature and my understanding of the real meaning of coexistence and stewardship.”

In her work “Shared Spaces” Cindy paints a series of intimate painted portraits exploring human relations with animals we use to meet our needs. In another series of mixed media pieces Cindy visually explores the wild animals that we share spaces with. “Throughout my life I have been deeply curious about the animals in my natural surroundings. I wonder about these animals individual realities in their interactions with us and the impact we have on them.”

Susan Carkeek “Sometimes it is the most obvious realities that are the hardest to see and the most difficult to talk about. 
​
Susan continues to investigate the difficult relationships humans have with all the other living beings on our planet. In this body of work she explores some of the attitudes and beliefs that make it difficult for us to join the mix of the 99.9% of biomass. Her work for this show includes layered paper carvings, dry point etchings and paintings on paper, all referencing plant beings and carefully chosen words.
